Common Pitfalls

Why PR Applications Get Rejected.

Receiving an ITA is only half the battle. A minor inconsistency during final submission can lead to years of delay or complete rejection.

Misrepresentation (A140)

Hidden previous refusals, false work history, undisclosed family members, or fake documents. We ensure total transparency and conduct a full review of your immigration history upfront. No misrepresentation — ever.

Handling Refusals & Bans →

Defective Experience Letters

Reference letters that don't clearly state job duties, hours, duration, wage, or aren't on company letterhead. We provide a customized reference letter template, ensuring IRCC-compliant language.

NOC Misalignment

Your job duties don't match the NOC code selected. We classify your occupation using the current NOC system, verify duties against the description, and align reference letters accordingly.

1

Receive Your ITA

IRCC emails you an Invitation to Apply. You have 60 days to submit a complete PR application.

2

3

You complete an upfront medical exam, submit police certificates, and provide biometrics at a VAC.

4

COPR & Landing

Once approved (approx. 6 months), you receive your COPR and become a permanent resident upon landing in Canada.

Total time from profile to PR: 9-18 months (typical)

What Is Express Entry?

Express Entry is not a visa — it's a system used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to manage applications for three federal economic immigration programs.

Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)

For skilled workers abroad with at least 1 year of continuous skilled work experience, foreign credentials, and proof of language proficiency.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

For workers with at least 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada (TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3).

Federal Skilled Trades (FST)

For skilled tradespeople with at least 2 years of trades experience and a valid job offer or trade certificate.

Eligible candidates create an Express Entry profile. IRCC ranks them using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and invites the highest-scoring candidates to apply for permanent residency through regular draws.

Express Entry Eligibility Checklist

For Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)

  • 1. Skilled Work Experience: At least 1 year of continuous full-time (or equivalent part-time) skilled work experience in the last 10 years, in TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3.
  • 2. Education: At least a Canadian high school diploma OR a foreign credential equivalent to Canadian secondary or post-secondary, validated by an ECA.
  • 3. Language Proficiency: CLB 7 or higher in English or French across all four abilities (reading, writing, listening, speaking).
  • 4. Points Threshold: Score at least 67 points out of 100 on IRCC's FSW selection grid (separate from CRS score).
  • 5. Settlement Funds: Show proof of settlement funds (unless you have a valid Canadian job offer or are already working in Canada).

For Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

  • 1. Canadian Work Experience: At least 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada in the last 3 years, in TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3.
  • 2. Language Proficiency: CLB 7 (TEER 0, 1) or CLB 5 (TEER 2, 3).
  • 3. Education: No formal education requirement, but education points add to your CRS score.
  • 4. Legal Status: Must have held valid temporary resident status during your Canadian work experience.

For Federal Skilled Trades (FST)

  • 1. Trades Experience: At least 2 years of full-time skilled trades experience in the last 5 years.
  • 2. Language Proficiency: CLB 5 for speaking/listening, CLB 4 for reading/writing.
  • 3. Job Offer or Certificate: Either a valid job offer for at least 1 year OR a Certificate of Qualification from a Canadian provincial/territorial trades authority.

Knowledge Base

Express Entry FAQs

What is a good CRS score in 2025?

For general draws, a competitive score is 520+. For category-based draws, scores as low as 400-450 can receive ITAs. Provincial nomination adds 600 points and virtually guarantees an ITA.

How often are Express Entry draws held?

IRCC typically holds draws every 2-4 weeks. General draws and category-based draws alternate. We monitor every draw and notify you when your profile is competitive.

Can I improve my CRS score after submitting my profile?

Yes. You can update your profile anytime within the 12-month validity period. Better language scores, additional education, more work experience, a job offer, or a provincial nomination all increase your score.

Do I need a job offer for Express Entry?

No — a job offer isn't required to qualify. But a valid LMIA-based job offer adds 50 or 200 CRS points, which can be the difference between getting an ITA or not.

What's the difference between FSW, CEC, and FST?

FSW (Federal Skilled Worker): For skilled workers abroad. CEC (Canadian Experience Class): For workers with 1+ year of Canadian skilled work experience. FST (Federal Skilled Trades): For skilled tradespeople with 2+ years of trades experience.

How long does Express Entry PR processing take after ITA?

IRCC's standard processing time is 6 months from a complete application. Some cases process faster (3-4 months), others slower (8-10 months) depending on complexity and country of residence.

Can my family come with me through Express Entry?

Yes. Your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children can be included in your PR application. They'll receive the same PR status as you.

What happens if I don't receive an ITA within 12 months?

Your profile expires. You can create a new profile and re-submit, but you'll need to redo your documents (ECA, language tests, etc.). We monitor your profile and advise on strategies if an ITA isn't received.
